Experimenting with Friction

Do ONE of the following for this challenge:

A. Design an experiment that explores how mass affects the force of friction.

OR

B. Design and experiment to explore various shapes that reduce friction in the air, ground, or water.

Procedure

  1. Create a Question that will be the focus of your experiment.

  2. Make a hypothesis - a prediction about the answer to your question.

  3. Write out a step by step procedure on how you will conduct your experiment.  Make sure to consider constants and variables in your experiment.

  4. Conduct your experiment.

  5. Create a data table and record your data.

  6. Write a conclusion for your experiment.  What did you find out?  What was the answer to your original question? Was your hypothesis correct? Why or why not? What were some sources of error in your experiment?

  7. Turn in your report.  This can be done on a poster if you wish.  It should include the following (in this order)

    - Title

    - Question you were trying to answer

    - Hypothesis

    - Procedure

    - Data Table (and Graph if applicable)

    - Conclusion
