Species Design

How does the environment drive a species to change?

Task:

1. Choose an environment for your species to live in.  Describe the environment.  Also include the types of predators and plants that would be found in the ecosystem.

2. Design a brand new species that has adaptations to live in that environment.  In addition to environmental conditions, consider predators and competitors that might be part of the ecosystem.  How does it do each of the following:

- Eat - What does it eat and how does it get its food?

- Make a shelter or where does it sleep?

- Hide or fight predators

- Attract a mate

3. Add an event to your organism's environment such as a drought, fire, flood, or disruption to the food web.  Explain how your species was able to survive.  Then show how the species might change through natural selection due to the change in the environment.

4.  Create a Final Product that includes steps 1, 2, and 3 above.  This could be in the form of:

  • Diorama (You can also make a 3D printed model of your species using Tinkercad to put in your diorama)

  • Children's Book

  • Comic Strip

  • Video

  • Flipbook
